I was born in Córdoba, Argentina, in 1971. I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts in 1994 from Figueroa Alcorta School of Fine Arts.
Since graduation I have worked as an artist, a graphic designer and illustrator and more recently as an art educator.
Buenos Aires and Córdoba were the two first cities where I set up my studio. Very early my work started to deal with paintings that stood at the threshold of representation and abstraction.
I left Argentina for the United States in 2001. First in Columbus, Ohio, and later in New York City I started to develop my technique that combines my own painted papers, painting and collage.
I now live and work in London. I continue to pursue an image of indeterminacy somewhere between abstraction and representation.
My paintings are in private collections in the UK, USA, Canada, Argentina, Uruguay, Denmark, México, Spain and Turkey.
StatementI am a dedicated painter with one simple goal: I strive to create flat surfaces that generate the illusion of representation within the context of abstraction. Painting has always been liable to experiencing and interpretation. Weather anecdotal reading, conceptual understanding, allegoric deciphering or any possible relationships between the work of art and the observer, to me it will be more important the effects of a work of art than its signification.
My paintings are composed mostly of highly saturated colour fields that suggest imaginary scenes like domestic still-lives or Arcadian landscapes. My ideas are driven by colour. Colour is so resistant to theory that I find it is the real subject of my paintings. Colour as subject allows me to dilute representation.
Each painting begins with a series of arbitrary strokes which soon develop into a formal idea to explore. Spontaneity is the goal at this stage. I continue to overlap different media: chalk, crayon, painted paper, over thin and thick acrylic paint. Each layer represents a shift in direction, a new challenge or choice, a new painting to become. I delight in working with the accidental and deliberate evolution of the painting. The finished painting is open ended, and because of the nature of the technique it is difficult to end a composition which is ultimately a sum of several paintings that lay behind the final coat.
